Almost like ILQ9 Review by Mgl

I have a set of these that I bought a while ago and recently decided to compare it with the ILQ9 Pro and CATS Lion I also have.

Although these tend to have metal shields on both sides of the bearing, you can remove one shield and service them just like any other skate serviceable bearing.

They come with white Japan Kyodo grease and not oil. Once you service them, if you use oil, you will need to maintain them more often than if you use grease.

With oil, they will perform faster and better right away, than with grease but with grease, they will be better protected from the elements outside in case that matters to you.

With grease, performance is slightly slower in the beginning. Grease also lasts longer (months to years)
Grease will also affect the spin for a while in the beginning.

These bearings have a 6 balls inside and a METAL cage for the balls as opposed to non-metal ball cage for many other types of bearings.

The downside of metal cages around the balls is that they will heat up as the wheel spins faster. Heating up metal will cause it to dilate and therefore affect bearing performance slowing it down. If you are a speed skater you do NOT want this.

For slalom or freestyle/urban, after changing grease to oil I did not notice the difference between ILQ7 and ILQ9 in slalom, freestyle, fitness. In fact, with the old hand spin test, they spin the same as ILQ9 Pro or most times even more. 1 out of 10 they had the same rpm as ILQ9 Pro.

On long fitness workouts of many km's I barely saw any difference and if some ware there at some point (which is hard to pin point) it has to do with the metal cage rotation adding extra heat to the heated balls and therefore dilating the metal e slowing down the spin.

Pros:
- Cheaper than ILQ9 Pro and with oil they will perform the same as ILQ9 Pro
- Easy to make serviceable

Cons:
- You need to break on of the side seals to change the grease to oil and then do regular maintenance
- Metal ball cage that will heat up and contribute negatively to bearing performance if you are a speed skater. (you need to be going extremely fast to notice this)
- The more metal and exposure to the elements the faster rust sets in.
- These were not designed to be serviceable. Making them serviceable and not taking care of them leads to shorter life.

Notes:
- By speed skater, I mean people that have skates with very low boot cuff and not a regular skater that just wants to speed.
- If you like to do jumps, you should look for information about the metals used as these may not be the best
- Overall these are a cheap choice for 80% of the skaters out there.
- CATS lion perform better out of the box, than the ILQ's mentioned here

My quality vote is due to the extra work and existing metal cage mentioned. (Posted on 11/3/2017)
